Mike "The Hammer" Morales - Acoustic/Electric Drums and Percussion

I was introduced to drums when my brother joined a band in high school, and they had to play at my house. I used to sneak into the basement, when they were not here, and sit behind the drummer’s drum set and dream. Then I started building my own kit out of our barstools, and a couple of coffee cans and pie pans. After breaking and tearing up the bar stools my parents spent fifty bucks and bought me my first drum set. 4 pieces. I used to play all the time, and anytime I could. A couple of my friends asked me to play a talent show with them, at my junior high school, and that's when it happened. One of the songs I had to learn was Run to the Hills, from Iron Maiden, and, are you ready, Something for Nothing. And there it was... my first introduction to who it was I wanted to be. Neil Peart.

From there it blossomed. My guitarist, Steve, introduced me to it all starting with 2112, Hemispheres, Moving Pictures, you name it he had it. I could not get enough. At that time I did not have the money or the means to get the right equipment. But over time as I got older, and got a job, I became very good friends with the guys at the Long Island Drum Center. I purchased all my gear with them. What ever Neil had, I wanted to have. As I grew up and grew into my own style, I realized that I can only follow in someone's shoes for so long. I needed to find myself. My interest grew, and so did my list of influences, like, Stewart Copeland, Liberty DeVito, Steve Smith, Steve Gadd, Buddy Rich, Joe Franco, Dave Weckl, Mike Portnoy, Vinnie Paul..., the list just goes on.

I have played in many bands in my time ranging from bar bands to country bands, to original projects that I would have to say, used to have all the influences especially, Rush in them. I guess you never really lose sight of what drives you when you play. If anything, it is a big compliment to Rush, and Neil himself. If it were not for those three stooges, I would not be here today.

I will jump ahead here a little. One day walking out of the drum center, I noticed this ad that had a picture of Rush on it with a circle round Neil's head, and it said 'we are looking for him'. My heart started pounding. Could it be that finally, I might have a chance to do something that I have always dreamed about for the last 16 years? I called Anthony's number on the ad and told myself that I would do whatever it took to be in that project. So here I am.

I have met 3 complete strangers with as much love and compassion for Rush as I have, and never thought that I would be doing this after all these years. Let me just say there are a lot of Rush fans, but I do not think you will find a group of guys with as much intensity that we do. We are here to perform for you what has moved our hearts and touched our lives to a stage near you...in hopes that all Rush fans, and hopefully Rush themselves will see, as a live and moving tribute to a band well versed in diversity, intensity and complexity...and of course their all-around ability to make you feel amazed!

If you are a big big Rush fan, you will not be let down. We will fill the void between Rush tours again and again, and again.
